Jaguar Land Rover Announces Major Supplier Investment

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is so proud of the Evoque’s success they are even bragging about the fact that they have to keep up with demand. Due to increased sales of the compact SUV in markets across the world, JLR has to spend an additional £1 billion (US$1.6 billion) with suppliers in the UK over the next four years.

The new amount stacks over the £2 billion (US$3.2 billion) awarded as contracts to 40 suppliers back in March of 2011. And all this for the assembly plant at Halewood on Merseyside.

To better coordinate their efforts, JLR have opened a new logistics facility in Ellesmere Port, UK. This will support production of the Evoque and the Freelander 2 and create 300 new jobs.

"Today's announcements demonstrate JLR's strong products and clear ambition for continued growth. The demand we have seen across the globe for the Range Rover Evoque means we are able to significantly increase what we spend with our suppliers, which is great news for the UK economy, and the thousands of jobs JLR supports in its supply chain," said Ralf Speth, CEO Jaguar Land Rover.

Good news. More jobs is always a good thing. Now hopefully Jaguar can start popping out enough of these for the market. I'm curious to see how the sport model turns out.

More jobs then people can stop complaing about the fact that there are no jobs and people are always in poverty!

But it will be good to see more and more jobs being created! Also the success of the evoque!

Employment and poverty is no small issue. With the way the economy is these last few years, it's a very good sign of things when the auto industry can afford to start hiring again.
